On Saturday, October 5, 16 students from the University of Akron School of Law visited Lydia’s Home for a day of service as part of Akron Law Cares Day. The program served 16 nonprofits across Summit County that day. This is the 14th year for Akron Law Cares Day and the sixth year that Lydia’s Home has benefited from this unique program.
The students worked with Lydia’s Home staff to spread more than 20 tons of gravel in the parking area, move wood piles to the outbuilding for dry storage, weed, edge, and mulch flower beds, and organize the outbuilding with proper shelving and storage for property maintenance tools and supplies. And, they graciously prepared a meal for the whole team to keep us filled and fueled.
“We are very grateful for the service of these caring students,” said Tamela Shawhan, operations director at Lydia’s Home. “Taking excellent care of the property is an important aspect of making this house a home, and it means a lot to us. As a nonprofit ministry, we saved about $3,200 because of their generous gifts of time and energy.”
Lydia’s Home celebrated its seventh anniversary as a unique recovery residence in the City of Green this year, where women experience a unique faith-centered and curriculum-based recovery program in a safe and comforting home environment.
We are grateful to Professor Joanne Sahl Esq. J.D. and the students of the University of Akron School of Law for their continued commitment to community service.
